The Oligarchy of One, inspired by old school shmups, offers some modern elements. Drawing upon such diverse influences as 2017’s Cuphead and the 1998 Galactic Patrol, The Oligarchy of One tries to pit you against interesting waves of enemies and exotic bosses while providing you with a series of exciting weapons. You pilot one of several ship types to save humanity from evil invaders by destroying foes with weapons ranging from boomerang shots to micro-blackhole launchers. This game was made by a team of three for a class’s final project in the Unity game engine.
I was responsible for all the coding in this game. As a relatively early game in my formal education, I ended up teaching myself several new skills to add to my toolbox. Particularly for this game, the original spec resulted in the player losing their progress if they left the game. I taught myself some simple I/O in order to save out the game’s current state and allow players to restore their game if they got out but had not died.
